Nidderdale Plus Small Grant Scheme

The Nidderdale Charity Shop was set up by Nidderdale Plus in February 2022 and sells second-hand clothes, bric-a-brac, household goods, books and other items. The shop is run by a wonderful team of volunteers and proceeds from all sales are used for three charitable purposes:
-
To provide a grant fund each year - the Nidderdale Plus Community Fund
-
To provide the Small Grants Scheme
-
To help fund the charitable activities of Nidderdale Plus Community Hub such as: Community Transport; Meals on Wheels; Minibus Days Out; Befriending, Digital Champions service; Office Services
What is the Nidderdale Plus Small Grant Scheme?
The Scheme is a rolling programme with an easy, informal, and quick application and approval process enabling groups and organisations to apply for up to £250.00.
What type of activity can be funded?
Small-scale community ideas, projects, group activities, equipment purchases, one-off events or trips, or short-term finance issues such as venue hire.
Informal groups with no bank account are still able to apply and Nidderdale Plus can hold funds to dispense on behalf of such groups.
Guidance and support will be given to applicants to complete the form and a simple verification process will be conducted to make sure the activity to be funded is consistent with Nidderdale Plus’ charitable purpose.

Befriending
In response to local need, and the cessation of services from a separate organisation, Nidderdale Plus started a new befriending service in 2023.
Zoe Crossley is our Befriending Coordinator: she assists people who are looking for a befriender and manages the recruitment and training of volunteer befrienders. All volunteers are offered training and an induction process.
We offer two types of befriending:
-
Face to face, where befrienders visit befriendees in their own homes for a conversation and a cup of tea, etc
-
Phone befriending, where befrienders contact befriendees by phone for a regular chat
Zoe matches people and offers support in the early stages of befriending, in the hope that people will continue to have a successful relationship once the direct support from us has ended.
As befrienders may work with vulnerable adults, befriender volunteers are subject to DBS checks which Nidd Plus will undertake.
Nidderdale Plus is very grateful to the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust and North Yorkshire Council “Staying Healthy, Independent and Connected” grant scheme for providing funding to help start this service.
